Countdown to Blythecon!

happydance
In my typical style, I was not organized enough to be an official vendor at Blythecon (hey, it’s my first one!) . Instead, I’ve decided to hold a “secret” sale for Blythecon attendees right here. I’ve made a small batch dresses and a couple of other little bits that I will post for at a secret web address the weekend of the con. Any left after that will be available in my Etsy shop.

Happy 10th Birthday, Blythe!

Republished from Puchicollective

In honor of Blythe’s 10th birthday (they grow up so fast!) A special event is being held in Junie Moon Daikanyama – Blythe Summit! Handmade custom Blythe dolls and outfits will be available in the store from May 31-June 19.  Team Sibley was happy to participate – we customized a Nostalgic Pop, Maraballe Melody, and Little Lily Brown Middie. Christina made 10x of 3 different Jam Fancy outfit sets.

I was extra-excited to get my hands on Middie – I was intrigued by the few photos I’d seen popping up on Flickr, and I couldn’t wait to see what was inside. I’m happy to say that after working with her and learning how to fine-tune her unique glance, that I became hooked and miss her very much!  It will be wonderful when eyechips and custom parts are available for Middies, they are really fun little ladies.

Head on over to TeamSibley.com to see all three girls.

Check out Junie Moon’s news page for more photos of the goods and some amazing custom Blythes and Middies!

In pursuit of the perfect bunka baby

One of my very favorite things is my old baby doll found in a cluttered little antique shop in Tokyo. He definitely shows his age, but there is just something about him — the proportions of his face, the nap of his flannel onesie, the dry sound of his broken crier — that is perfect! He’s made from very simple shapes and materials, which I think makes him so magnetic. He follows all the rules of cute: big round head, wide-set eyes, no nose,  pink cheeks, happy expression.  I am fascinated by how simple things can evoke such an emotional attraction.

I was still feeling inspired by the felt prints that spawned the last litter of Bunny kneehuggers, so I whipped up a large-scale version, similar in proportions and construction to my vintage babydoll.  I managed to get  a shot of them all together before the little ones went off to their new homes.  He’s hanging out right now with the vintage one (which makes the old baby look considerably older next to his crisp white trim!), but I can tell he is ready to move on to another toy shelf. I’ll be putting him up just as soon as I can get some nicer photos of him.

I’m getting more and more comfortable selling. It was such a struggle for me in the beginning, I worried about not doing everything just right or screwing up orders.  I think it follows with just about everything that the more you do something, the easier it becomes. It’s been fun, too, having an excuse to buy more fabrics for my hoard and getting my packaging just right. A shipment of 200 little boxes just arrived and I ordered a huge bundle of aqua-blue tissue paper (super-junk blue, natch). I better get to making more things to put in them!

Follow Super*Junk on Facebook

I just set up a facebook page just for my Super*Junk updates – I have been far to fragmented in my approach to posting updates, I know. I will still have posts go to twitter, this blog, and the email notifier I have been using, but since everyone is on facebook now it makes sense to post all updates there (and not on my personal wall). I don’t know why I resisted doing this for so long (well, I know why, it’s because I dislike FB in general but you can’t argue with numbers!)

Springtime felfs*

I was delighted to find new flannels the last time I went fabric shopping. Wee Woodland Mushrooms and Winter Whites immediately inspired this little collection of funny pixie kneehuggers. Since easter is still fresh in my memory, some sleeping felf bunnies just seemed natural.  I learned a lot from the batch I made for my christmas display, so these fuzzy elves are even better.

Patterned after vintage japanese pixies, their little bodies flop into poses quite easily.  I found a particularly ratty chrismas kneehugger last season with the most adorable little face, so I let that be my inspiration for the makeup.

I’ll be updating the shop with these over the weekend, subscribing to the Etsy RSS is your best bet since I will be on a crazy schedule this weekend.

also, the current pre-order of pose doll kits is almost sold out!
